Lori Rogovin
Instructor
School of Social Work

Lori has served as member of the School of Social Work’s adjunct faculty since 2009 and brings a breadth of experience as a social work macro practitioner.  Her commitment to advocacy was born on the campus of the University of Michigan where, as a student, she became involved in women’s issues and spent time volunteering at a women’s crisis center and a shelter for battered women and children and became involved in education and prevention efforts around sexual assault.  Before relocating to Tampa in 2008, she spent most of her career advocating for public policies at the national, state and local level that sought to improve the lives of the most vulnerable populations.  In addition to women’s issues, her work has focused on policy development in the areas of health and mental health, aging, education, child welfare and disability and rehabilitation.  She was part of the core lobbying group that advocated in Washington, DC for the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act, Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act.  She was also active in federal lobbying and grass-roots organizing efforts on legislation reauthorizing the Older Americans Act, Rehabilitation Act and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act as well as numerous collaborative efforts on legislative and budget initiatives at the state level.  She has sat on numerous boards, committees and commissions.

Lori has extensive public speaking and advocacy training experience which was afforded to her through her work with DC based national associations, a statewide children’s advocacy organization in Baltimore, and a large public school system on the outskirts of DC.  As an adjunct instructor in the USF School of Social Work, she was able to use her work experience to enhance the macro-level social work classes she taught.  Most recently, Lori has focused her professional efforts on aging issues and has worked in the area of geriatric care management.  Lori is most proud of the work she has done in the area of collaboration with diverse groups at the national, state and community levels and is looking forward to being an active participant in collaborative efforts within the School of Social work, the College of Behavioral and Community Science and the entire university and Tampa community on behalf of USF students.

Lori’s broad experience and dedication to advocacy are supported by her credentials which include:

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan.
  • Master of Social Work Degree (MSW) from The Catholic University of America.
  • Nationally certified by the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW).
